This is the entry level for all Accredited Athletic Coaches. The course introduces the fundamental skills of running, jumping & throwing as well as exploring how to engage athletes in long-term participation and how to coach skills to beginner athletes.

This qualification is certified by the Australian Sports Commission and allows participants to be nationally accredited as a community coach which is transferable to other sports engaging in the community coach program. The course includes one day of face to face training as well as the online Community Coach General Principles course.

The course has 5 modules delivered online over a 3 week period:

  • Module 1 Coaching Beginning Athletes
  • Module 2 The Training Environment
  • Module 3 Fundamental Skills of Running, Jumping and Throwing
  • Module 4 Kids' Athletics
  • Module 5 Session Planning

Course Details

Start Date: Sunday, 10 October, 2021.

Module 3

Date: Sunday 10 October (online Teams meeting delivery)

Time: 3:00pm - 6:00pm

Module 1&2

Date: Sunday 17 October (online Teams meeting delivery)

Time: 3.00pm-5.00pm

Module 4&5

Date: Sunday 24 October (online Teams meeting delivery)

Time: 3.00pm-5.00pm

*If a participant is aware in advance that they will be unable to attend a scheduled Zoom Meeting, they must advise development@actlaa.org.au prior to the Zoom Meeting. Arrangments will be made for them to attend the meeting on the modules missed with another state/course.

Prerequisites:

Participants must be 16 years of age to be accredited as a Level 1 Community Athletics Coach.
Complete Australian Sports Commission’s ‘Community Coaching General Principles Course’. 
Complete the Play by the Rules module 'Child Protection'.

Exemptions:

If you are a teacher, you are exempt from completing the online Community Coaching General Principles module but must still provide the Play by the Rules 'Child Protection' module certificate.

Course Fee:

Athletics ACT members: Participants must be a member of an Athletics ACT club.

Non-members: Participants are not members of an Athletics ACT club

**Little Athletics active coach course rebate. Any coach who can demonstrate post completion of the Level 1 Community Athletics Coaching Course that they have been actively engaged in coaching at a Little Athletics Centre within the ACT are entitled to a 50% rebate on the course's fee. To apply for the 50% the relevant centre must apply to development@actlaa.org.au in writing on the coaches behalf.
