Event information

Registrations for this event are closed.

The 2021 U6-U8 Teams Challenge will be conducted on Sunday 14th February at Dickson Playing Fields.

The U6-U8 Teams Challenge is a fun event where our youngest little athletes get the opportunity to participate in team events against little athletes from other Little Athletics Centres. Activities are based on game like activities that teach fundamental movements and motor skills. These activities involve competition but are done with modified rules and specifications to emphasise the focus on fun and participation rather than individual performance. This event is based on the developmental age appropriate guidelines as set out by both Little Athletics Australia and Athletics Australia. These guidelines recognise that children are not small-scale adults, and that the performance of a child is not a clear indicator of future adult performance.

Due to COVD-19 restrictions we have split the day into 3 sessions with each age group competing in modified track and field events. You will note on the draft program which can be found by clicking here, there are strict enter, commencement, finish and exit times. These have been put into place to ensure we meet all COVID-19 requirements and to ensure we can all enjoy the day as risk free as possible. This may mean some events scheduled for a session will not be completed if we reach the time allocated. Please click here for a copy of the event booklet. Please click here for the rules fo each event.

To help assist us in completing events on time once entries close centres will be sent a list of their entries so they can start forming teams. These can be changed on the day if athletes do not turn up. We will work with centres who do not have enough entries to fill a full team by combining them with athletes from other centres so everyone will get to compete.  We ask that each centre has a team manager on the day to assist with this any last minutes changes required.

Teams of 5 will compete at each of the 5 events. Teams can be mixed gender. Mixed age teams are not permitted. An information booklet with the descriptions of events will be available shortly.

Any athlete wishing to compete must register by 11:45pm on Monday 8th February. Please note there will be NO LATE ENTRIES TAKEN OR ANY ENTRIES ALLOWED ON THE DAY. Please make sure you complete 1 entry per athlete.

Due to COVID 19 restrictions currently in place and to ensure as many athletes as possible can compete, there is a maximum of 1 parent/guardian per child in the venue during the session they are competing in. You will need to fill in these details when registering your child.

All athletes and spectators will be required to comply with the COVID Safe Plan for the event which is available by clicking here. There will be COVID-19 Safety Officers at the registration tent and around the venue during the event. Please make sure you follow any instructions given by these Officers otherwise you may be asked to leave the venue. Due to the COVID restrictions no centre will be allowed to set up a marquee/tent however we would encourage centres to set up a table so athletes can advise they have arrived.

If you have any questions in regards to this event please contact the Athletics in the ACT Office on (02) 6247 1296 or executive@actlaa.org.au.
