Capital Athletics Welcomes Two New Directors

We’re excited to announce the appointment of two new Directors to the Capital Athletics Board: Karen Billington and Vanessa Low.

Following the recent AGM and the resignation of Tim Christie, two casual vacancies became available. The Board undertook a process to seek nominations, attracting a strong field of highly qualified applicants. After careful consideration, Karen and Vanessa were selected, bringing a wealth of experience, leadership, and a shared passion for athletics.

Karen Billington

Karen is a dedicated advocate for community sport and an active participant herself, with a love for trail running, ocean swimming, and road cycling. Over the past five years, she has been closely involved with Woden Thunder Athletics, assisting with registrations and supporting young athletes as an Age Manager.

Professionally, Karen has over 20 years of experience in management consulting, governance, and strategic planning. She has contributed her skills to a range of community organisations, ensuring strong leadership and sustainable growth. Her experience and enthusiasm will be a valuable asset to the Board as we continue to strengthen and develop athletics in the ACT.

Karen will serve as a Director until the end of the AGM in 2026, when she will have the opportunity to nominate as an Elected Director.

Vanessa Low

Vanessa is a world-class athlete, multiple Paralympic champion, and long jump world record holder. Her achievements on the international stage have set new benchmarks in para-athletics, and her deep knowledge of high-performance sport, resilience, and athlete development will bring invaluable insight to the Board.

Beyond her sporting success, Vanessa is passionate about creating opportunities for athletes of all backgrounds. Her leadership and experience will help shape the future of athletics in the ACT, and we are thrilled to have her on board.

Vanessa will serve as a Director until the end of the AGM in 2025, when she will have the opportunity to nominate as an Elected Director.
